Cat No: thats cool thats trash
Κάποια από τα τραγούδια γράφτηκαν αποκλειστικά για τη συλλογή που θα κυκλοφορούσε (όπως πχ των Sound Explosion, Maggots, Hara-Kee-Rees, Satelliters, Dee Rangers κλπ), κάποια ήταν ήδη ακυκλοφόρητα και περίμεναν την ευκαιρία (όπως των Johnny No & the No-Men, Glendoras, Unchayned κλπ) κι άλλα ήταν διαφορετικές εκτελέσεις (όπως των Way-Outs, Higher State κλπ). Thanks again to all the bands for contributing their songs. It might not be on vinyl but its cult already.
1. THE SOUND EXPLOSION – Every Night And Day (The Sound Explosion)
John Alexopoulos: guitar, vocals
Dimitris Dimopoulos: bass
Stavros Daktylas: drums
Stelios Askoksylakis: organ
This is the first song to be recorded by the Sound Explosion since ages! This is what its called “Garage Punk”!
2. THE MAGGOTS -It’s All Greek To Me (The Maggots)
Tomas Holm – Bass & Backing Vocals
Jonas Lundberg – Drums & Tambourine
Måns P. Månsson – Guitar & Vocals
Nicke Öhman – Vox Organ
Written by The Maggots.
Recorded in the Maggotcave.
Produced by Måns P. Månsson & The Maggots.
The Maggots has been at it since 1998 now! From the absolute start they’ve been about playing their favourite music, which is garage rock’n’roll laced with equal parts melodic hooks and big monkey beats. It’s always been about keeping it simple – at least in the instrumentation and recording situations. Never much for overdubbing and crap like that, The Maggots has always emphasized feeling over technicalities. They wanna wake you up and make you move, but they also wanna make you sit back and enjoy the ride
3. THE HARA-KEE-REES – When You Come Home (The Hara-Kee-Rees)
Patric: vocals
Martin: guitar
Torben: Organ
Michael: bass
Michael: drums
Sigh, cry, die... here come the Hara-Kee-Rees! Well, these five sexy Germans seem to have been fed with full spoons of teenage drama with obsessing garage punk on top. Their both first longplayers stick like glue on my turntable, and this own composition is another smashing ear candy, divinely mastered in the ol' good Greek tradition. Waooo, can't wait for their new album!!! - Fruitee Wurlee, Jan 2007 -
4. THE SATELLITERS – You Told Me So (The Satelliters)
Steve: Vocals, Organ, Harp, Tambourine
Alex: Drums
Diego: Bass-Guitar, Backing-Vocals
Zahni: Guitar, Backing-Vocals
Starting in 1993 as a Teen-Trash-Band the SATELLITERS soon started to develop their own interpretations from trashy to originated 60s influenced sounds. Soon the band started playing live on a regular base. Even the line-up-changes over the years couldn’t stop the guys from going on with their uncompromising way in sound and live-appearances. The band toured in Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Holland, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland and the US-westcoast twice. They performed at festivals such as FESTIVAL BEAT in Italy, GUTTER ISLAND in Denmark, PURPLE WEEKEND & EURO YE YE in Spain, CAVESTOMP! in New York/ USA, DIONYSUS DEMOLITION DERBY in Los Angeles /USA, COSMIC TRIP in France and many more. Sharp dressed and equipped with authentic gear they know how to turn on people...beside this they recorded 8 LPs/CDs (of which 5 were released by US-garage-cult-label DIONYSUS RECORDS, Burbank Ca.), several 7" EPs and compilation-tracks not to mention!
5. KILROY – Push Me Down (Kilroy)
Peter Karlsson: Jaguar, backing vocals
Henrik Appel: Bass Guitar, Lead & backing vocals
Gustav Ohman: Lead vocals, Guitar
Jakob Ljungberg: Drums
Kilroy has played together since they were very young even though they still can consider themselves as a young band. They play garage music with a lot of soul which has taken them as far from the cold Sweden as France and England. Their reputation has been steadily growning in their own country for several years and since their debut album "Introducing Kilroy!"(2006) they have started to get credits from other countries in Europe and America as well. Never miss a live show with Kilroy if you're in the neighbourhood, It will rock your brains out!6. THE CAVEMEN – Fiore Nero (The Cavemen)
Michele Biondi: vocals, guitar
Matteo Lamargese: vocals, guitar
Marco Luongo, bass
Sebastiano Rosetti, drums
Hailing from Ravenna, Italy, The Cavemen is a cave-teen combo fixated with sixties Garage-Punk and Beat Italiano. As a matter of fact their debut album for Teen Sound Records (Rome) here presents 3 cuts sung in English and 3 in their native tongue, filled with plenty of fuzzy guitars and stomping' beat. The guys deliver a primal, yet mature, release that displays their love for both classic UK acts and innocent US garage punk in Avengers/Stoics vein. The Cavemen surely like the 80's garage wave too, but instead of granted surf-punk instros here). The Cavemen are a happening and fun new garage combo to look for. Get outta the cave and listen to the music, then if there's no cave-party around, get a beer, play it at full volume and think of the good times...
7. THE HIGHER STATE – You Are What They Want (M. Ratcliffe)
Mike – drums
Mark – bass
Mole – guitar, vocal, butt trumpet
Marty - 6 and 12 string guitars, organ, vocal
THE HIGHER STATE' are 100% authentic garage/psych band. Described as the 'moodiest' garage band around, they have the perfect mix of 12 string jangle with beautiful vocal harmonies to harder edged garage punk, they play the music they know and love.
Here they offer their garage/psych punker 'you are what they want', the first new song written and recorded since the release of their 'from round here album.
8. THE PHANTOM KEYS – You Got Fire (The Phantom Keys)
Mal Kergan: Bass, Backing vocals
Roi: Guitar, Backing vocals
Manu: Guitar
A. Chao: Drums
Alberto: Farfisa, Blues harp, Percussion
Marky: Lead vocals, blues harp, Tambourine
The Phantom Keys staggered from their garage in a little village in the west coast of Spain and quickly became the next big thing for the Spanish garage kids and sixties crew. They like Garage sound but they are NOT another garage band; too Pop for the rudest garage followers. They like sixties look but they are NOT another sixties band; too real for the mod wanabees. The Phantom Keys want to have the total control of their own band and they’ll have the control over you if you see them live: from punkish R&B screamers and proto-psyche mini-masterpieces to Downliners Sect and Crawdaddys, psychedelic suites and purepop-flavored gems. Their live show is the nearest you’re gonna be to your favourite sixties band. They have the attitude of the Music Machine, the instrumental mayhem of the Litter, the psychedelic sense of The Seeds, the high energy of the first Pink Floyd, the roots of the Yardbirds and the elegance of the Easybeats into their original stew. Yes, sure, they have a cool name too.
9. THE HOLLYWOOD SINNERS – Love Me So (Hollywood Sinners)
Ed Sinner – Vocals, guitar
Carmelo Tornado: Bass
Lord Jartur: Drums
HOLLYWOOD SINNERS is a gang of 4 weird and crazy guys which only interests are being wild and noisy. Their music is a mixture between punk and the craziest and funniest 60s garage sounds. Little love is what they feel for their all vintage instruments which they hit and beat until they get the worst sounds from them, making really great parties on their gigs!!! FUN and just Fun is what they all like. Their crazy shows have taken them to being performing around all the Spanish geography. They jumped to the international scene last year making a mini tour in England on Eastern and BRUSSELS on May to the SUICIDE TWIST FESTIVAL. They also made an European Tour last September. A gang of four weird and crazy guys whose only interest is being wild and noisy. Their music is a mixture of punk and the craziest and funniest garage-rock sounds. Little love is what they feel for their all-vintage instruments, which they hit and bite until they get the worst sounds from them, making really great parties out of all their gigs! FUN and just Fun is what they all like. Their crazy shows have led to them being invited to perform around all of Spain. And now they are making inroads into the international scene, starting with London. They were formed in 2000 and they haven't stop since. Crazy wild and dangerous, they've been playing on stage with bands such the Flaming Sideburns, The Masonics, Forty Fives, Fumestones, Panics... and many more. Their gigs have been talked about for months, even years, afterwards - like the one at the Wild Weekend festival in Benidorm, for instance. They were also awarded in Ourense the prize of best national band on stage (the international band being Mooney Suzuki). They have an LP "Back from Hollyweird"(Animal Records) and two singles/eps "S7T(Animal Records) and a split with the Holy Sheep (H-Records). They got in the studio again before they tripped to London with Jorge Explosion, owner of the famous Circo Perrotti Studio! And A New Ep for Slovenly Records From USA was what they got… So, as the band says, "Don’t ever let go The FANTASTIC AND SAMELESS HOLLYWOOD SINNERS!"
10. THE WAY-OUTS – Drive Me Insane Again (King Koen)
Koen: Vox Phantom – Lead Vocals
Kevin: Vox Phantom
Yannic: Vox Continental – Backing Vocals
Ronny: Vox Stinger
Laurent: Vox Thunderbird
Formed out of the ashes of the Evil Thingies, the Way-Outs are Belgium’s newest garage sensation. They are the rawest bunch of Vox enthusiasts you’re likely to hear. Super-fuzz-garage-punk-a-go-go. Going all the way baby, and beyond… In June 2005, the Way-Outs recorded 17 tracks in their rehearsal room. Totally live and all in one take. No overdubs or any of that shit. Only the vocals and percussion were later recorded in a ‘real’ studio. They hate stereo and thus everything was mixed in glorious mono. “Drive Me Insane Again” is a different version than “Drive Me Insane” off their “Psychotic Retraction” LP. The Way-Outs couldn’t decide which version was the better so they recorded both versions. You be the judge. Get ready for some fuzz-infested action!
11. THE GLENDORAS – Girl Hear What I Say (Westerlund / Glendoras)
Recorded by Goran Tungstrom
Magnus Renström: vocals, guitars
Teresa Smedberg: drums
Patrik Leidert: farfisa organ
Mathias Westerlund: guitar
Rickard Westman: bass
12. JOHNNY NO AND THE NO-MEN – Going Nowhere Fast (J. F. Schuurmans)
Stephan: bass-guitar
Peer: drums, maracas, vocals
Johnny: guitar, vocals
This German garage group has been around since 1998 and every member of the band has been in different groups before, most notably in The What...For! and The No-Counts.
They did quite a lot of shows in their hometown Berlin and some of the towns and cities of (former) eastern Germany.
They did quite a lot of shows in their hometown Berlin and some of the towns and cities of (former) eastern Germany.
In the backwoods they saw it all: playing to empty ballrooms while a big crowd was waiting outside for the band to finish - as well as crazed countryside kids dancing and shouting to their rough sound, playing Rhythm & Blues, Beat and Garage.
Though they have enough original songs to put out a longplayer, they have no releases so far. Johnny No & The No-Men are presented here for the first time with a self-penned tune called "Going Nowhere Fast". Let's hope it's not prophetic for these guys...!
13. THE UNCHAYNED – Better Step Back (The Unchayned)
14. THEM TYRANTS – Girls Mean Trouble (Lundin, Jansson)
Magnus Jansson – lead vocals
Johan Lundin – organ
Martin Wikberg – lead guitar
Markus Larsson – drums
Henrik Sundin – bass
Recorded November 2006 at Real Music Studio by Per Ängqvist and Them Tyrants.
THEM TYRANTS are 5 good-looking freaks from Uppsala, Sweden. They have only played together for about 6 months. The Sound of the 60´s FreakBeat/Garage/Psych/Pop Music is why people just love these guys. Now is the time for you to dig the Fuzz/Organ Sounds of THEM TYRANTS!
15. THE MAHARAJAS – I Still Believe (Lindberg)
Jens Lindberg: rhythm guitar, backing vocals, organ
Mathias Lilja: lead vocals, lead guitar
Ulf Guttormsson: electric bass guitar, backing vocals
Anders Öberg: Drums
Recorded spring 2005 at Dustward Studios
Produced by Stefan Brandstorm & Mans P. Mansson
Special guest backing vocals: Mans P. Mansson & Sebastian Braun
The Maharajas was formed in Stockholm, Sweden in the mid 90`s, when Jens Lindberg thought it was time to start a new band, different from all the traditional garage bands around at the time, yet with the 60's influences intact. During a trip to Greece he found exactly what he was looking for when he discovered a more moody side of 60`s garagerock, and decided to combine this new experience with his ambition to form a new band. And so The Maharajas was born. Today this amazing foursome are known all over Scandinavia and Europe and considered as one of the best rock & roll bands of today!
16. DEE RANGERS – Going Primitive (Dee Rangers)
Johnny Elfstrφm – Bass
Nicke Φhman – Guitar
Uffe Pettersson – Drums
Parsley the Lion - Organ
Per Nystrφm – Vocals
Recorded January 2006 at Circo Perrotti Studio in Gijσn, Asturias, Spain by Jorge Explosion
Over the past few years, DEE RANGERS have been playing basements and festivals all over Europe, consistently wowing audiences with their explosive mix of raw beat, soul, power-pop and garage. Never ones to shy away from putting on a real show, the band has turned into a must-catch live act! Hot on the heels of their highly acclaimed album "Five Spanish Minutes", the band has just released the new album "Blue Swedes" on Screaming Apple Records. Drawing comparisons to classic groups like the Kinks, Sonics, Creeps and Booker T & the MG's, DEE RANGERS have yet to put a pointy boot wrong!!
